Iowa Public Radio kicks off first statewide fund drive

Iowa Public Radio will kick off its first-ever, statewide, on-air fund drive Friday, Oct. 12.

Iowa Public Radio combines the resources and talents of three heritage broadcast organizations -- KUNI/KHKE in Cedar Falls, the WOI Radio Group in Ames, and WSUI/KSUI in Iowa City. As Iowa Public Radio builds on long traditions of service to Iowa, it also seeks the financial support of listeners to enhance the future of public radio in Iowa during their on-air fundraising event Friday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 19.

"When listeners make a gift to Iowa Public Radio, they will help grow a service that focuses on serving communities across the entire state, from border to border," said Cindy Browne, executive director of Iowa Public Radio. "And with their help, Iowa Public Radio will carry forward the legacies of Iowa's three premier public radio stations creating a service worthy of the state of Iowa."

Iowa Public Radio strives for excellence in programming and is committed to continuous improvement in its operations. Robin Fraser, director of development for Iowa Public Radio, added, "Take the highest standards of journalism and raise them higher. Take the respect, loyalty and goodwill of a trusted radio companion and deepen them. Take unmatched listener support from around Iowa and unify it, and in all of these, you have the essence of Iowa Public Radio."

Over 220,000 listeners rely on Iowa Public Radio every week and more than one-third of IPR's operating budget comes from individual donors. Listeners who pledge their support on Friday, Oct. 12 will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a trip to Washington, D.C. that includes airfare for two, hotel, a VIP tour of the National Public Radio headquarters, and tickets to the Kennedy Center. Listeners may call 800-861-8000 or go online to to make a gift to Iowa Public Radio.
