UI engineer receives contract for computer tomography

Er-Wei Bai, professor in the University of Iowa College of Engineering Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has received a two-year, $379,697 subcontract from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., to help improve computer tomography (CT) angiography.

The project, formally titled "Bolus Chasing CT Angiography Using Adaptive Control Techniques," involves improving CT image quality and demonstrating its applicability to clinical settings. Angiography is a procedure performed to help physicians view blood vessels in many areas of the body.

Bai, who joined the UI faculty in 1987, is an expert in the fields of identification, control, and signal processing, and their applications in engineering and life science. In addition to his various scientific and professional society memberships, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and associate editor and editorial board member of several IEEE professional journals.
