Registration under way for WonderGirl 5K

Girls On The Run of Johnson County will be hosting its WonderGirl 5K Walk/Jog/Run on Saturday, Dec. 1. The event will begin at 10 a.m. in Lower City Park in Iowa City and is open to the public.

The race will benefit the local council of Girls On The Run, a non-profit prevention program affiliated with University of Iowa Recreational Services that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Its curriculum addresses all aspects of girls' development: their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well being.

Registration may be completed online at either or Fees for adults are $20 prior to Monday, Nov. 26, and $25 the day of the race. Children 12 and under are $10 prior to Monday, Nov. 26 and $15 the day of the race. All proceeds from the race will support the local Girls On The Run program and provide scholarships to girls in need. T-shirts are only guaranteed for those who pre-register. Food and drink will be available for participants on the race day.

Packets may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at the UI Fieldhouse and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. in City Park on the day of the race.
