The Lonelyhearts, Burlington Street Bluegrass Band to perform on 'Java Blend'

The Lonelyhearts will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series "Java Blend," at noon Friday, Nov. 16, and The Burlington Bluegrass Band will play at noon Friday, Nov. 30, both at the Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City.

The public is invited to be part of the live audiences for the hour-long shows, which originate from the University of Iowa's radio station WSUI-AM 910.

The Lonelyhearts, who blend guitars, synthesizers and harmony vocals in their songs, split their performance time between San Francisco and Iowa City. The band released their first album, "Dispatch," in 2005, and their new, full-length album will be released in the spring. The "Java Blend" performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2.

The Burlington Street Bluegrass Band, a bluegrass and country group, include Dale Thomas on the dobro guitar, Alan Murphy on the fiddle, banjoist Bob Black, mandolin player Joe Peterson, and guitarists Aleta Murphy and Mike Finders. The band started after playing a loosely structured gig at The Mill in Iowa City. The group's performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec. 16.

"Java Blend" broadcast times on WSUI-AM 910 are 7 p.m. Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays; check local broadcast times for other Iowa Public Radio stations. To view a full calendar of upcoming "Java Blend" performances and broadcasts, visit and scroll to "Java Blend."
