Civic Engagement Fair May 2 To Highlight Health Service

The public can learn more about the service and service-learning work of University of Iowa health sciences, social work and women's studies students, faculty and staff at the second annual Civic Engagement Fair.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the atrium of the Medical Education and Research Facility.

The fair will feature posters, tabletop booths, and oral and visual presentations. Projects range from those completed by individuals and groups as part of their UI coursework to other activities hosted by student interest groups, faculty and staff.

At 5:30 p.m., Claudia Fernandez, a public health nutritionist and a national figure in leadership development, will address attendees and participants on the importance of service in the health professions. Fernandez directs the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians Leadership Institute and serves as the leadership core director for the Food Systems Leadership Institute at the University of North Carolina.

Support for the Civic Engagement Fair is provided by the UI Civic Engagement Program; the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine; the UI Colleges of Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health; and the School of Social Work and the Women's Studies Program in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
