UI Medicine/Public Health/VA Research Week Is April 3, 4
Breast cancer, metastasis and insulin resistance will be the focus of discussions by three leading experts delivering public lectures during Research Week 2007: Growing the Biosciences in Iowa, Tuesday, April 3, and Wednesday, April 4, at the University of Iowa. The annual event, sponsored by the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, the UI College of Public Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Iowa City Health Care System, will also include poster sessions featuring the latest research of UI students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff.
The public lecture schedule is as follows:
--11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 3, Prem Sahai Auditorium (Rm. 1110A) Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF), "Nature, Nurture and Breast Cancer," Funmi Olopade, M.D., professor of medicine and human genetics and director of the Cancer Risk Clinic at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
--Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, Prem Sahai Auditorium (Rm. 1110A) MERF,
"Cellular Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance," Gerald Shulman, M.D., Ph.D., professor of internal medicine and of cellular and molecular physiology at Yale University School of Medicine, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator.
--4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, Prem Sahai Auditorium, 1110A MERF,
"Cellular Mechanisms Contributing to Metastasis," Richard Hynes, Ph.D., the Daniel K. Ludwig Professor for Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Cancer Research, and an HHMI investigator.
Research Week poster sessions will be held in the MERF atrium. Graduate students and medical students will present from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 3; postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.
