UI Faculty Perform For Jazz Combo Festival March 31
A combo made up of University of Iowa jazz faculty members and alumni will present a free concert at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Clapp Recital Hall on the UI campus.
The concert, which is part of the UI Jazz Combo Festival aimed at high school students, will be free and open to the public.
Members of the faculty/alumni combo will be: John Rapson, head of the jazz studies area, piano; Greg Mazunik, alumnus, bass; Jim Deier, UI jazz faculty, drums; Paul Cunliffe, UI Dance Department accompanist, drums; Steve Grismore, UI jazz faculty, guitar; Bob Thompson, alumnus, saxophone; Bobby Domsic, alumnus, saxophone; Brent Sandy, UI jazz faculty, trumpet; and Rich Medd, alumnus, trombone.
Their program will be announced from the stage.
This is the first of a planned annual Jazz Combo Festival at the UI. It is designed for high school level combos and includes workshops and performance opportunities over a two-day period, from Friday afternoon March 30 through Saturday, March 31. The festival will culminate in the University of Iowa Jazz Faculty performance.
Jazz Combos from around Iowa will attend including Linn-Mar, Independence, North Scott, Iowa City and Iowa City West high schools.
