IOWA Centers For Enterprise To Host Open House March 22
The IOWA Centers for Enterprise will host an open house from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 22, to celebrate the opening of its new offices at 2660 University Capitol Centre (formerly Old Capitol Mall).
The university and business community is invited to learn more about the IOWA Centers for Enterprise, the University of Iowa's new business and commercialization hub in the heart of campus. IOWA Centers representatives will be available during the open house to answer questions about its programs and services.
"The IOWA Centers for Enterprise is one door to a university of possibilities," said Thomas Sharpe, associate vice president for economic development at the UI. "This means when businesses and individuals call on us, we will help them find the resources they need within the greater university."
Interim President Gary Fethke will speak at the event, giving an overview of the UI's mission as it relates to service to Iowans and the UI's role in economic development. UI Vice President for Research Meredith Hay will talk about why the
IOWA Centers was created in October 2005 to integrate existing economic development efforts in one entity, and its goal of fostering economic development by connecting experts, entrepreneurs, and innovators inside and outside the UI. Sharpe will discuss the past success of the IOWA Centers, and highlight some of its upcoming projects and plans.
The IOWA Centers include the Office of the Associate Vice President for Economic Development, Office of Corporate Partnerships, the UI Research Foundation, John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, and Small Business Development Center, along with the Technology Innovation Center, Oakdale Research Park and liaisons from nine UI colleges.
The IOWA Centers for Enterprise integrate existing economic development activities at the UI, offers a comprehensive program that promotes economic development and technology transfer, provides assistance to Iowa startups and existing Iowa businesses and communities, and helps the state of Iowa develop a creative, entrepreneurial workforce. IOWA Centers for Enterprise optimizes the flow of university intellectual property into opportunities for licensing, commercialization and business development.
