Seminar To Examine Franchise Ownership Opportunities

An expert on franchise ownership will discuss the pros and cons of owning a franchise business in a seminar sponsored by the University of Iowa Small Business Development Center and US Bank.

"Franchise Business Ownership: A Choice For You?" will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8 at US Bank, 204 E. Washington St., in Iowa City. Registration is required, and the cost is $25. To register, contact the Small Business Development Center at 319-335-3742 or via email at

The seminar will be conducted by Joe Cooney, strategic franchise advisor of FranNet of the Heartlands. Cooney conducts dozens of seminars a year on franchising in conjunction with outplacement firms, small business development centers and local chambers of commerce, as well as colleges and universities.

The seminar will cover such topics as the definition, history and myths of franchising; franchising regulations; what you get when buying a franchise; what you give when joining a franchise system; what costs are associated with franchise business ownership; and how to thoroughly research the franchise you want to buy.
