Tracy Receives Award From Iowa Pharmacy Association

Roger Tracy, assistant dean of the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and director of the college's Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs, recently received the 2007 Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) Appreciation Award. Tracy was honored during the IPA's annual meeting June 8-10 in Coralville.

The IPA Appreciation Award was created in 1988 to recognize individuals and organizations for their support of organized pharmacy in the state of Iowa.

Tracy has a long history of facilitating the advancement of pharmacist-physician relationships. In the early 1990s he was instrumental in establishing the development and funding of clinical pharmacist faculty members at each of the eight statewide, UI-affiliated family medicine residency program sites in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Des Moines (two sites), Iowa City, Mason City, Sioux City and Waterloo. Pharmacy students who interact in these clinics as part of their clerkships are exposed to a real-world practice model that emphasizes collaboration between pharmacists and physicians and other health care professionals.

"Roger Tracy has maintained a strong commitment to pharmacy through the university's statewide medical education program, and we appreciate everything he has done for the profession," said Tom Temple, executive vice president of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

The Carver College of Medicine's Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs (OSCEP), which Tracy directs, also maintains a health professions tracking system for pharmacists and other health care providers in Iowa. OSCEP staff maintain educational and professional information for every active pharmacist in the state, monitor trends, and facilitate research on the pharmacist workforce in Iowa.
