UI 'Live From Prairie Lights' Is Live Again

"Live from Prairie Lights" long held the distinction of being the only series of live literary readings on American radio. With the beginning of the 2007 series, the readings are no longer broadcast live on University of Iowa radio station WSUI, but instead are recorded for weekend broadcasts on Iowa Public Radio stations.

But now, thanks to WSUI engineers, "Live from Prairie Lights" is live again, on the Internet rather than the radio. Streaming audio of the live events is now available on the UI Writing University web site,

"'Live from Prairie Lights' is a staple in the intellectual and creative life of Iowa's community of writers and readers," said Kelly Smith, editor of the Writing University site. "I'm so glad that the Writing University web site can help uphold the program's admirable tradition of live 'broadcast.'"

Look for a link in the upper right hand corner of the Writing University web page.

The delayed broadcasts, hosted by WSUI's Julie Englander, air at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturdays, and 7 p.m. Sundays on AM 910 WSUI, AM 640 WOI and AM 1010 KRNI. A program is also broadcast at 5 p.m. Sundays on 91.7 FM KSUI.
