Mini Medical School In Des Moines To Focus On Cancer

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine will host a Mini Medical School program on cancer Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Des Moines.

The program, "The Road to a Cure: How Scientific Discoveries Turn Into New Treatments for the Care and Cure of Cancer," will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in Thompson Auditorium at the Iowa Methodist Medical Education Center in Des Moines. The program is open to the public, although the session is limited to the first 150 registrants. A $5 fee for course materials will be collected at the event. George Weiner, M.D., the C.E. Block Chair of Cancer Research and director of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI, will present the program.

Mini Medical School is designed for anyone who is curious about medicine and the scientific basis of health and disease. No science or medical educational background is needed to participate in this program.

Mini Medical School is sponsored by the UI Carver College of Medicine and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the UI in conjunction with the UI Center on Aging.
