Target Community Concert Series Presents 'Dueling Pianos' Jan. 14 At UI
The Target Community Concert Series, presented by the University of Iowa Arts Share program, will present "Dueling Pianos" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, in Clapp Recital Hall on the UI campus.
"Dueling Pianos" will feature music for two pianos, four hands, as well as three pieces arranged for five pianos, 10 hands. The performers will be faculty, undergraduates and graduate students in the UI School of Music.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door to help purchase a keyboard for United Action for Youth (http://www.unitedactionforyouth.org). United Action for Youth is a non-profit organization in Iowa City that provides a variety of services for youth aged 12-17 years, including a new youth center offering free music and art resources.
The goal of Arts Share (http://www.uiowa.edu/artsshare/) is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa. The program makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.
The program also sponsors a variety of on-campus performances available to school groups from throughout the region.
The Arts Share roster includes more than 100 individual artists and ensembles, with options to fit a variety of needs and budgets. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.
Target Stores is the sponsor of the Community Concert Series.
Arts Share is the outreach program of the UI Division of Performing Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the School of Music is one of the division's academic departments.
