Fethke To Discuss Condition Of UI To Service Groups

University of Iowa Interim President Gary Fethke will give the annual "condition of the university" speech to a joint meeting of Iowa City service clubs at noon Thursday, Feb. 22 in the Hotel Vetro in downtown Iowa City.

Fethke will give a general overview of the current state of the UI, talk about its educational mission, and the need to focus on the undergraduate experience. He will also discuss current initiatives in medical affairs with a focus on patient satisfaction, along with some brief commentary on economic development.

He also will discuss the idea of an Iowa Value Proposition. "This defines what we do best, how we present and market ourselves, and, most essentially, why people are willing to take advantage of our services, rather than purchasing or acquiring those services from our competitors," he said.

The annual speech by the UI president is a long-standing Iowa City tradition and is designed to strengthen the "town-gown" relationship between the university and the surrounding communities, including Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Clear Creek and Solon.

All local service clubs have been invited to the meeting. Tickets are $15 in advance from club presidents, with a limited number of $20 tickets at the door. If club members have missed getting tickets in advance from their presidents, tickets may also be ordered in advance by noon Wednesday, Feb. 21 from Maggie Mowery, president of the Iowa City Noon Rotary Club, 319-321-5178.
