Marvin Bell Will Be Guest On 'The Exchange' Feb. 23

Former Iowa Poet Laureate Marvin Bell will be the featured guest Friday, Feb. 23 on "The Exchange," Iowa Public Radio's daily statewide talk show.

Hosted by Ben Kieffer, this special edition of the program will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. from Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City. This audience event is free and open to the public, although seating is limited.

Bell will share poetry, observations from his life and a preview of his upcoming book, "Mars Being Red," much of which revolves around wartime. Bell, who earned his master of fine arts degree from the UI in 1963, is professor emeritus of creative writing at the UI. As a professor in the Iowa Writers' Workshop from 1965 to 2005, Bell taught generations of poets and published 18 volumes of poetry and essays. Known internationally as a talented poet, he has twice been named Iowa's Poet Laureate.
