Hancher Hosts 25th Annual Exhibition Of Children's Art Feb. 15 To March 8

Art by children in all the elementary schools in the Iowa City Community School District will be on display Feb. 15 through March 8 in the lobby of the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium. This is the 25th consecutive year that Hancher has hosted an exhibition selected and installed by local art teachers.

Hancher Guild will host a free reception for the 2007 Children's Art Exhibition 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. In addition to refreshments, the event will feature performances by local school children.

The exhibition will be available for viewing at all events in Hancher through March 8, as well as during the weekly business hours of the Hancher Showcase gift shop: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays through March 8.

Events in Hancher during the exhibition are:

--the UI Symphony Band and Honor Band at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18;

--the UI Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21;

--Richard Stoltzman's "Salute to Benny Goodman" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24;

--Momix at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27;

--Art Garfunkel at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3; and

--David Sanborn at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7.

Hancher Guild is the auditorium's volunteer organization, which operates the Showcase gift shop, provides hospitality for visiting artists, staffs educational events and advises the auditorium on programming.

The reception is co-sponsored by the Optiva Credit Union.
