Melissa Cartoun to perform on 'Java Blend' Jan. 4

Boston singer-songwriter Melissa Cartoun will perform live as part of the Iowa Public Radio performance series Java Blend at noon Friday, Jan. 4, at the Java House in downtown Iowa City.

Melissa Faith Cartoun describes her music as "alt alt," somewhere between folk rock and soul. She started performing while attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where she developed a local following. Now living in Boston, she released her debut album "Rearview" in August.

The public is invited to be part of the live audience for the hour-long, free show, which originates from the University of Iowa's radio station WSUI-AM 910. "Java Blend" will be recorded for broadcast Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20, across the state on Iowa Public Radio. For broadcast times and stations, go to
