Two All Iowa Attack basketball teams win UI Hawkeye Shootout

Two All Iowa Attack teams of Ames placed first in their divisions in the 17th annual Hawkeye Shootout hosted by the University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services Dec. 15-16.

All Iowa Attack 13U Girls defeated the Sioux City Blast 38-28 to win the Seventh Grade Girls' Division.

All Iowa Attack 14U Boys defeated the Magic of Cedar Rapids in overtime by a score of 39-35 to win the Eighth Grade Boys' Division.

The championship games were played at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

The Hawkeye Shootout is a youth basketball team open to seventh- and eighth-grade girls' and boy's teams from around the region. "It is a high level of play. The top two teams in the championship game are often the teams that play for the Amateur Athletic Union state championship later in the year," said Mike Widen, tournament director.

The tournament is held each year as a fundraiser, supplementing recreation programs at the UI and introducing area seventh- and eighth-graders to the university.
