Women's center sponsors annual fall open house Aug. 29

In conjunction with the beginning of the new academic year and the University of Iowa's Welcome Week, the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa will sponsor its annual fall open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. WRAC is located at 130 N. Madison St. in Iowa City, in the blue house directly across the street from the Iowa Memorial Union.

During the open house, there will be tours of the building, refreshments and opportunities to meet staff members and volunteers and to learn about the services and activities offered by the center.

Founded in 1971, WRAC is one of the oldest university-based women's centers in the United States. Among its services -- which are available to UI students, faculty and staff, and to the general public -- are information and referral, advocacy, support and discussion groups, individual counseling, and a wide variety of educational programs including seminars, workshops, festivals and discussions.

The center is a department within the UI Division of Student Services. For more information, visit

This event is free and open to the public. For more information or special accommodations to participate, call 319-335-1486.
