UI Announces Welcome Week Activities For Students
The University of Iowa will welcome new and returning students with a jam-packed week of free activities, including a job fair, hypnotist and first-ever 10,000 Hours Show Fall Concert showcasing local talent.
In addition to helping students connect with various student groups, services, offices and programs, Welcome Week is taking steps to make sure they can find their way around campus. Two booths will be set up in high-traffic areas around campus -- the Pentacrest and T. Anne Cleary Walkway -- to provide students with directions to buildings and venues for Welcome Week special events.
The week starts Saturday, Aug. 25, with free screenings at the Bijou Theater of "Election" and a free Welcome Week Cookout at the Iowa Memorial Union.
Other Welcome Week activities this year include a Kick Off Classic - featuring a variety of sports activities and hosted by Recreational Services - as well as a Student Organization Fair and new Chill Out & Grill Out event hosted by the Black Student Union.
"Welcome Week is a great opportunity to meet new people and get involved in campus life," said Barrett Anderson, UI Student Government president. "There's a job fair, concert, student organization fair, free barbeque with prizes and games, and even a hypnotist.
"All incoming and returning students should take advantage of Welcome Week at the University of Iowa," he added.
