Registration For UI Senior College Underway

Registration for the fall term of the University of Iowa Senior College is now underway, with classes starting in late August. Senior College is offering eight courses for retirees who want to enrich their knowledge in subjects ranging from football to opera.

Senior College offers short-term, low-cost classes taught by emeritus UI faculty, current UI faculty and experts in the community.

The program is sponsored by the UI Emeritus Faculty Association and the UI Retirees Association. The UI Alumni Association also provides support and coordinates registration for the classes, which are $30 per course.

The eight courses are:

-- "Football: The Basics" meets Thursdays Aug. 30 to Sept. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Roy G. Karro building, home of UI Athletics Hall of Fame. Former Hawkeye football player Dave Triplett will teach the class. Registration deadline is Aug. 16.

-- "Exploring your Family Stories" meets Tuesdays Sept. 4 to 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in the Main Library Room 3083. Registration deadline is Aug. 21.

-- "Emerging Asian Economies" meets Mondays Sept. 10 to Oct. 1 from 3:30 to 5:20 p.m. in the Pappajohn Business Building Room W151. Registration deadline is Aug. 27.

-- "International Literature Today" meets Thursdays Sept. 27 to Oct. 25 (no class on Oct. 11) from 2:30 to 4:20 p.m. in the Iowa Memorial Union's Minnesota Room for the first three classes, last class in River Room 1. Registration deadline is Sept. 13.

-- "Reading the Landscape of Iowa" meets Fridays Oct. 5 to 26 from 2:30 to 4:20 p.m. in Schaeffer Hall Room 40. Registration deadline is Sept. 21.

-- "Perspectives on Media and Our Lives" meets Mondays Oct. 22 to Nov. 12 from 3:30 to 5:20 p.m. in the Pappajohn Business Building Room W151. Registration deadline is Oct. 8.

-- "Mental Illness and Behavioral Pathology in Opera" meets Fridays Oct. 26 to Nov. 16 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Parkview Church at 15 Foster Road. Registration deadline is Oct. 12.

-- "Introduction to Digital Photography" which meets Tuesdays Oct. 2 through 9, is currently full, registration closed.
