Annual MFA Exhibition Opens At UI Museum Of Art May 11

"Master of Fine Arts 2007," an exhibition of works by recent recipients of the Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will be on display at the UI Museum of Art (UIMA) from Friday, May 11 through Friday, June 8.

A reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition and honor the MFA graduate artists will be held at the museum from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 11.

Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

"This year the MFA show reveals a high degree of elegance, sophistication and beauty in works rich in concepts," said Dorothy Johnson, director of the School of Art and Art History. "MFA graduates in all areas incorporate traditional techniques and new technologies to create works on the cutting edge."

The MFA exhibition occurs annually to display the thesis works of all students who graduated in the past year from the UI School of Art and Art History MFA program.

The 2007 exhibition will include works by 19 graduate artists representing the School of Art and Art History's studio areas of design, intermedia, metalsmithing and jewelry, painting and printmaking.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
