Children's Hospital Of Iowa To Change Its Name

Leaders of Children's Hospital of Iowa within University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City announced today that Iowa's highest-ranked children's hospital has now officially changed its name to University of Iowa Children's Hospital to emphasize its long history as a part of the university.

Michael Artman, M.D., physician-in-chief at University of Iowa Children's Hospital, said that a market survey conducted during the summer of 2006 found that the link between Children's Hospital of Iowa and the UI was not clear to respondents.

"More than half of the survey's respondents told us that they thought University of Iowa Children's Hospital was, in fact, our name already," Artman said. "We carefully considered that feedback and decided that the new version will more clearly demonstrate that our hospital is part of the University of Iowa."

The process of changing the pediatric hospital's name began about five weeks ago. That process included steps such as converting stationary, signage and lab coats to reflect a new, refreshed logo for the children's hospital.

University of Iowa Children's Hospital serves children and their families at its main campus in Iowa City and satellite clinics in communities throughout Iowa. A 165-bed "hospital within a hospital," University of Iowa Children's Hospital benefits from the sophisticated services and comprehensive resources of UI Hospitals and Clinics. Child magazine ranks University of Iowa Children's Hospital among the top 20 children's hospitals in the nation.
