Listeners Show Strong Support For Iowa Public Radio In Spring Fund Drive

Iowa Public Radio listeners contributed more than $670,000 in gifts and pledges during the spring fund drive to support the news, information, music and cultural programming heard on IPR stations around the state.

The spring fundraiser was held March 23-30 on IPR stations KUNI/KHKE at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, WSUI/KSUI at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and the WOI Radio Group at Iowa State University in Ames. In the spring and fall fund drives, both member mailings and on-air appeals encourage public radio listeners to become individual contributors in support of the stations.

In the drive, more than 4,400 listeners made pledges or contributions. First-time donors made 950, or one-fifth, of the pledges this spring to IPR stations. Contributions from individuals account for more than 35 percent of station revenues and represent the largest category of funds available for station operations.

In addition to the thousands of donors, IPR and its staff thanked the dozens of volunteers who gave of their time and talents, as well as the businesses and corporate sponsors who supplied food, drinks and premiums for the drive.

"With this type of continuing public support, IPR will be able to fulfill its mission to inform, enrich and engage Iowans through radio programming and other media," says Cindy Browne, IPR's executive director. "By enhancing civic and cultural connections across the state, IPR strengthens communities and reflects Iowa's sense of place. The air waves will continue as a place Iowans want to be."
