WSUI's 'Java Blend' Show Features Catfish Keith April 13

Iowa blues singer, songwriter and bottleneck slide guitarist Catfish Keith will perform live at noon Friday, April 13, at the Java House, located at 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City.

The public is invited to be part of the live audience for the free show, which will be recorded for broadcast on Iowa Public Radio's "Java Blend" program originating from University of Iowa radio station WSUI-AM 910.

A two-time W.C. Handy Award nominee for Best Acoustic Blues Album, Catfish Keith has produced 10 No. 1 independent radio chart-topping albums. He has toured the United Kingdom and Europe dozens of times, appearing with legends John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Robert Cray and Koko Taylor.

An article in Guitar Player magazine said, "Catfish bends entire chords as well as the neck and body of his guitar to wrench emotion from his songs."

Hosted by Ben Kieffer, "Java Blend" offers an eclectic mix of live music from the vibrant independent music scene, featuring artists from around the state and around the country. Kieffer infuses the performances with lively discussion to find out about the artists' music and lives.

The hour will be broadcast at a later date on Iowa Public Radio stations across the state For broadcast times and locations, see and scroll to "Java Blend."

The program will also be videotaped for several TV broadcasts on the UITV cable channel in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area. The audio version also can be heard worldwide on the Internet via the respective stations' live Webcasting.
