UI Women In Science And Engineering Program Awards Travel Grants

The University of Iowa Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program has announced spring semester 2007 award recipients of its Dr. Eunice Schuytema Beam Travel Grant Program.

The award winners, each of whom will receive $250 toward travel to a professional meeting to present scholarly work, are:

--Disha Dayal of Delhi, India, a radiation oncology doctoral student in the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, delivered an oral presentation, "Hydrogen Peroxide governs the level of radiation-induced genomic stability," at the 13th Annual Meeting of the Society for Free Radicals in Biology and Medicine in Denver, Colo., Nov. 15-18, 2006.

--Emily Lai of, Branson, Mo., an educational measurement and statistics doctoral student in the College of Education, will deliver an oral presentation, "High stakes testing and test preparation: examining teacher beliefs and practices," at the American Educational Research in Chicago, Ill., April 9-13, 2007.

--Siu Wah Wong-Deyrup of Hong Kong, China, an bioinorganic chemistry doctoral student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, delivered an oral presentation, "DNA sequence selectivity and kinetic properties of the novo designed chimenic dimens: are two better than one?" at the 2007 Gordon Research Conference in Ventura, Calif., Feb. 1-4, 2007.
