The Sleeping Planes, Matt Wright To Perform On 'Java Blend' In July
For the July editions of the Iowa Public Radio performance series "Java Blend," the indie-folk band The Sleeping Planes will perform at noon Friday, July 13, and singer-songwriter Matt Wright will play at noon Friday, July 27.
The public is invited to be part of the live audience for the shows at the Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City. The hour-long show originates from the University of Iowa's radio station WSUI-AM 910.
The Sleeping Planes are singers-songwriters Marty Carpenter and JJ Alberhasky, with vocalist Cory Hutchinson-Reuss, drummer Brian Cooper, and guitarist Mitch Fecht. The band's first album "I Could" is due to be released this fall. The group's performance will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29.
Matt Wright fuses blues, jazz and funk in his music, with early influences like Stevie Wonder and Dave Matthews. The Tipton native's show will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12. Hosted by Ben Kieffer, "Java Blend" offers an eclectic mix of live music from the vibrant independent music scene featuring artists from around the state and country. Kieffer infuses the performances with lively discussion to find out about the artists' music and lives.
The program will also be videotaped for several TV broadcasts on the UITV cable channel in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area. The audio version also can be heard worldwide on the Internet via Iowa Public Radio stations' live Webcasting.
