Wall Street Journal Ranks Tippie MBA Program
For the second year in a row, a Wall Street Journal survey of corporate recruiters has ranked the University of Iowa's Tippie MBA Program as one of the top 20 regional MBA programs in the country. Tippie was ranked 16th in the Journal's regional rankings this year, the same position as last year.
Gary Gaeth, associate dean of the Tippie School of Management in the Tippie College of Business, said that since the Journal's ranking is determined by the opinions of corporate recruiters, it reflects a view of the program from the business world.
"For a small program like ours to achieve these kinds of results shows how much hard work we put into building strong relationships with employers, and the high quality of our graduates," said Gaeth. "They wouldn't remember us on this survey if we didn't provide them with good students."
Harris Interactive, which conducted The Wall Street Journal ranking, based the results on the opinions and behaviors of 4,125 MBA recruiters who hire full-time business school graduates. Recruiters rated each school on 21 different attributes, their future plans to recruit at the school, and the number of survey respondents who said they had recruited recently at the school. The Journal released its rankings in its September 20 editions.
Gaeth said the Tippie MBA has been working with employers to improve connections between students and recruiters. One year ago, the Full-time MBA Program and the staff of the MBA Career Services Office moved into the Pomerantz Center. This state-of-the-art facility and its interview suites are a draw to corporate recruiters and have served as the background for more student-recruiter interaction. The program has also established unique, non-traditional ways for students to establish relationships with employers, he said, such as sending students to meet with recruiters if the recruiter is unable to come to campus.
"We have unique challenges as a small program, and our ranking in this poll shows we have been able to build a program that's highly respected by recruiters and employers regardless of our size," said Gaeth.
While the Full-time Tippie MBA Program is offered on campus and typically completed in two years, it is one of several MBA programs offered by the Tippie School of Management. In addition, the MBA for Professionals and Managers (MBA-PM) Program is offered predominately in the evenings for students in Des Moines, Newton, Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities; and the Executive MBA Program is offered in Iowa City on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. A Dual Masters Degree Program will begin in January 2007 and will offer trained engineers with a Tippie Executive MBA and a Masters in Systems Engineering Degree from Iowa State. The Tippie School of Management has also developed an International MBA Program in Hong Kong.
