PR Agency Founder To Discuss Starting Your Own Business

Todd Smith, a University of Iowa alumnus who went on to found the Clear! Blue strategic communications agency, will discuss entrepreneurship when he speaks on behalf of the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

Smith's speech, part of the Sandage Speaker Series, will be held in the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Lab at 322 N. Clinton St. Those who wish to attend should RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 4 by calling (319) 335-1022, or through the JPEC Web site at

Smith is the founder, president, and CEO of Clear! Blue, a marketing strategic communications company with revenues of nearly $20 million. Clear!Blue's clients include Mercedes, GM, Delphi, Jeep, Chrysler, Dunkin Donuts, and Sprint.

Smith received his BBA from the Tippie College of Business in 1990 and his MBA in 1996. He worked in automobile marketing for Saturn Corporation and DaimlerChrylsler Corporation before starting his own company in 2000. He said that his experience in the auto industry showed him that an agency that offers marketing, advertising and public relations services on a consulting basis, rather than the standard commodity marketing program, would succeed. As a result, Clear! Blue has grown in five years to more than 30 employees working from offices in Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles.
