Hancher Audiences Will Have Opportunity To Participate In National Survey
Audiences at three fall events in the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium will have the opportunity to participate in a major national survey of performing-arts audiences. Hancher is one of 14 venues in the country selected to survey their audiences through the Major University Presenters (MUPs) organization.
Survey questionnaires will be distributed to all audience members at the Martha Graham Dance Company on Oct. 3, the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company on Oct. 12 and the concert by Paquito D'Rivera on Dec. 1. One questionnaire is designed to be completed in the hall, and another is to be filled out later, after reflection on the arts experience, and mailed back in a stamped, self-addressed envelope that will be provided.
Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary.
The MUPs research aims to analyze why people attend live performing-arts performances, and what they derive from the experience, with the expectation that this understanding will enable arts presenters to better serve their audiences. This "value-and-impact" study is being conducted by Alan S. Brown & Associates, a firm that specializes in consumer research and marketing support for the non-profit arts.
"We have heard from patrons over the years that their experiences at Hancher have been an important part of their lives," says Judith Hurtig, Hancher's artistic director. "But these have all been anecdotal. We are looking forward to hearing from our audience in a more systematic and deeper way. I hope that all our patrons who attend these three events will complete the surveys, both the one in the hall and the one to be completed at home upon further reflection."
Tickets for the three events are available now at the Hancher box office.
