UI Arts Share Program Now Scheduling Events Statewide For 2006-07
Arts Share, the University of Iowa outreach program that sends faculty and graduate-student artists to schools and communities throughout the state, is now scheduling events for the 2006-2007 season.
A colorful brochure, including a scheduling request form, is available from the Arts Share office at 319-335-1618, or at email@example.com.
Information about available programs and on-line forms are also available at the Arts Share website: http://www.uiowa.edu/artsshare.
The goal of Arts Share is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa. To serve that goal, Arts Share makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.
The 2006-07 Arts Share roster lists nearly 100 individual artists and ensembles, with options to fit a variety of needs and budgets. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.
Just a few examples of Arts Share's major artists and ensembles:
-- Duarte Dance Works, the professional company of dance faculty member Armando Duarte;
-- Writers' Workshop faculty poet James Galvin;
-- the Afro-Cuban Drum and Dance Ensemble;
-- the World Percussion Ensemble;
-- the UI Symphony Orchestra;
-- faculty ensembles from the School of Music including the Iowa Brass Quintet, the Maia String Quartet, the Oddbar Jazz Ensemble and the Matisse Trio; and
-- the Darwin Turner Action Theatre.
The program also sponsors the Target Community Concert Series and a variety of on-campus performances available to school groups from throughout the region: a Theatre Field Trip to "Into the Woods," a Dance Field Trip to the UI Youth Ballet's concert of "Nutcracker" excerpts, workshops at the International Center, tours of the UI Museum of Art and Museum of Natural History, and workshops in connection with Hancher Auditorium's Stage Door series.
Arts Share sponsors for 2006-07 include Alliant Energy Foundation, the Optimists, the Johnson & Johnson Society for the Arts in Healthcare and Target Stores.
Arts Share is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
