Presidential Search Committee Chairs Issue Progress Report
Teresa Wahlert of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, and University of Iowa faculty members Katherine Tachau and Dr. Frank Abboud - chair and vice chairs, respectively, of the UI Presidential Search Committee - issued the following statement Friday, Sept. 15, reporting on the committee's progress to date:
Since June 2006, the chair, vice chairs and members of the Search Committee had over 50 group or individual meetings with members of the university constituency and the community and worked with the search firm of Heidrick & Struggles to identify nominees.
A position description, appropriate newspaper ads, a brochure, an invitation for submission of names of possible candidates and the nomination process are included on the website of the Presidential Search -- http://www.uiowa.edu/uipresidentialsearch/. The names of all Search Committee members, as well as those of the Search Advisory Committee, are also listed on the site.
There have been several, almost weekly, telephone conferences/meetings between the chair, vice chairs and representatives of Heidrick & Struggles and among committee members. There were two meetings of the Advisory Committee and five meetings of the full Search Committee.
We have had more than 150 nominees proposed by the university constituency, the community at large, Heidrick & Struggles, and some self-nominations. Nominees have been contacted and invited to express their interest.
The committee has begun to review materials on all candidates. We anticipate this process will lead us toward conclusion around the end of this calendar year.
We are pleased with the high quality of the candidates and their recognition of the extraordinary opportunity that the University of Iowa represents.
