KHAK Radiothon To Benefit Children's Hospital Of Iowa

The broadcast team of "the Brain and the Bear" of KHAK-FM in Cedar Rapids will accept donations from listeners to support Children's Hospital of Iowa and Children's Miracle Network during their 10th annual radiothon that will broadcast live Sept. 12-15 from the atrium lobby on the first level of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The marathon broadcast will begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, and continue from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until its conclusion at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Proceeds of the 98-hour event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa and its outreach clinics. Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 140,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.

"All of our radiothons have been special to us but our 10th radiothon will be truly significant, and we are committed to making it the best one yet," said the Bear.

"We feel strongly about helping kids and families and that is why we are still excited about doing this radiothon for the tenth time," added the Brain.

The Brain and the Bear will share the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

"Words are not adequate to express our gratitude to everyone at KHAK for their support of Children's Hospital of Iowa," said Michael Artman, M.D., UI professor and head of pediatrics and physician-in-chief at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "We care for thousands of children from Eastern Iowa each year, and the generosity of KHAK staff and their listeners makes a huge difference for those patients and their families."

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children.
