Children's Hospital Symposium To Focus On Child Health Advocacy
Children face a wide array of health threats, ranging from traumatic injuries and abuse to mental illness and infectious disease.
Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics in Iowa City will devote is 2006 symposium Oct. 13-14 to advocating for improvements in health care for children.
"Advocacy: The Future of Children's Health Depends on You" will occur in the Rembolt Conference Room at the UI Center for Disabilities and Development, located at 100 Hawkins Drive in Iowa City. The program will offer pediatricians, family physicians and other child health care providers an overview of local, regional and national efforts in advocating for child health issues as well as provide attendees with the skills to develop effective strategies in advocating for the wellbeing of children at all levels. Speakers include elected representatives and nationally renowned speakers in this area.
"It is our responsibility as health care professionals to advocate on behalf of our patients, particularly this vulnerable population that isn't able to advocate for themselves," said Michael Artman, M.D., UI professor and head of pediatrics and physician-in-chief at Children's Hospital. "I believe that individually we are doing a good job, but the intent of this symposium is to explore ways in which we can all work together to become even more effective advocates for improving the health and well being of children everywhere."
Children's Hospital of Iowa and the Department of Pediatrics in the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine are jointly sponsoring the symposium. To register or obtain more information, call 319-335-8599.
