UI Dance Marathon Executive Board Announces Goals For 13th Event
The momentum from UI Dance Marathon 12 didn't stop after all of the decorations were removed from the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union and dancers recuperated. After working hard this summer to plan next year's "Big Event," the Dance Marathon executive board has announced its goals for the 13th annual celebration, Feb. 2-3, 2007.
UI Dance Marathon works in association with the Children's Miracle Network, a fundraising partner to Children's Hospital of Iowa within University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The UI Dance Marathon is the largest Children's Miracle Network dance marathon in the country and focuses on helping children and families from across the region who are fighting pediatric cancer.
Executive Director Travis Bushaw said, "Our primary goal is to see the tote board reach $725,000."
During the final hours of the event, the dollar amount raised over a year of fundraising is revealed to dancers, the event's Leadership Team and families. Last year's celebration brought in $686,251 for Children's Hospital of Iowa, solidifying the UI's Dance Marathon status as one of the largest and strongest in the country.
In addition, the Leadership Team wishes to recruit at least 1,500 dancers and retain at least 75 percent of those participants. Dancers must commit to raising $425 to gain access to the dance floor and learn about the day-to-day experience of the families at Children's Hospital of Iowa.
"We really feel like these are achievable goals," said UI Dance Marathon Public Relations/Marketing Director Marcus Dittmer.
Those who wish to get involved are encouraged to sign up to be a dancer. Registration forms are available at the Office of Student Life, 145 Iowa Memorial Union. For more information, please visit www.dancemarathon.org.
