Innovative Software Engineering Moves To Oakdale Research Park

Innovative Software Engineering LLC (ISE), a full-service custom software solutions provider, has moved to the University of Iowa Oakdale Research Park in Coralville, Iowa to accommodate its recent growth.

ISE now has its offices at 2658 Crosspark Road, Suite 200. President and CEO Hass Machlab founded the company in December 2002 at the UI's Technology Innovation Center. Starting with just eight employees, ISE now has 22 employees.

"We are proud to have ISE in the Oakdale Research Park and congratulate them on their success in the software development field," said Thomas Sharpe, UI associate vice president for Economic Development. "We look forward to continuing a productive partnership with ISE in the Oakdale Research Park. It's a great example of how the UI can work with a start-up company to reap benefits for the area and the state."

ISE offers four services for its customers: engineering management, systems engineering, software development and quality assurance. Machlab says ISE engineers work well with a wide range of customers; they also have excellent writing skills to communicate with clients and help them capture their product requirements. "We believe our level of service is comparable to that of highly sought after engineering firms," he explained.

ISE has successfully partnered with the McGraw-Hill Companies' Coralville-based education staff in the creation of the Breakthrough to Literacy(r) product line. ISE engineers were initially contracted by McGraw-Hill in 2000 to develop interactive software for self-paced learning. Since then, ISE has remained an integral part of the development of the Breakthrough to Literacy(r) early literacy solution for pre-kindergarten through third grade. These multimedia educational products are currently in use in over 450 school districts and more than 9,800 classrooms nationwide.

More recently, the company expanded its focus to target the transportation data services industry, developing a business plan to capture major customers in this market. One area of specialization is in vehicle telematics, using global positioning technology integrated with embedded computers and mobile communications. ISE has successfully contracted with and sold its services to a number of major transportation clients.

"ISE embraces its Midwestern roots and ties to the Iowa City/Coralville community. Over half of the engineering and management teams are graduates of Iowa universities. The company works closely with the University of Iowa to attract and to hire recent graduates and alumni," Machlab said. ISE also offers an internship program for students in computer science and electrical engineering disciplines. Machlab is also active in the Iowa City Area Development Group.

Machlab credits the talent, flexibility, and maturity of his team as the keys to the company's continued success, and hopes to continue his company's growth and add additional employees. "We are dedicated to be recruiting and retaining outstanding individuals, providing compensation, benefits, and professional development opportunities competitive with those of many larger technology companies," he said.
