Kinnick Stadium To Be Scene Of Disaster Drill Friday, Oct. 20

Area hospitals and emergency first responders, along with university, area, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and others will take part in an all-day disaster drill in Kinnick Stadium on the University of Iowa Campus, beginning at 8 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20.

The drill will simulate a disaster of large proportions, so the public can expect to hear sirens and may hear other alarming sounds. Many emergency vehicles will respond and will be in the area around Kinnick Stadium all day. The exact scenario of the disaster in known only to the private contractor until the drill begins.

Among the agencies taking part in the 12-hour drill will be: University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Mercy Hospital, Veteran's Administration Hospital, Johnson County Emergency Management, Johnson County Ambulance Service, UI Athletics, UI Police, Iowa City Police, Coralville Police, Johnson County Sheriff's Department, Iowa State Patrol, FBI, Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), Iowa City and Coralville Fire Departments, Johnson County Hazmat Team, Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad, and the 71st Civil Support Team of the Iowa National Guard.
