UI Recreational Services Offers 'Shape Up' Program

The University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services will offer the second session of "Shape Up," a fitness program for UI students, faculty, and staff starting Oct. 17 at Halsey Hall on the UI Campus.

This program is designed to focus on weight loss, exercise adherence, and healthy living habits. "It's a very rewarding program. It helps with a variety of goals from shaping up to diet," program participant Jodeane Cancilla remarked. Along with a variety of exercise, the program will include weekly goals and keeping a journal.

The "Shape Up" program is designed to focus on all around individual health. The number of participants is limited to twelve in order to focus on specific individual needs. "Participants develop camaraderie during the program and begin to push each other. They have all been positive about the program and the challenges they've been presented," said program instructor Carmela Robinson.

The "Shape Up" session will begin on Oct. 17 and run for four weeks. All University of Iowa students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate in this program. The classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30- 6:15 p.m., in Halsey Hall. Fees for the program are $55 for UI students and $75 for non-UI students.

To register for classes visit Recreational Services at one of the following locations: E216 Field House, Fitness East, or the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex. For more information concerning classes visit the Shape Up Web site at or contact Carmela Robinson at 319-384-4441.
