Mix 96 Children's Miracle Network Radiothon Breaks Record
Patients, parents and hospital volunteers cheered as the second annual Mix for Kids Radiothon from Children's Hospital of Iowa within University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics hit a record total of $50,040 in donations at the broadcast's conclusion last Friday evening, Nov. 17.
Hosts Debbie McFadden, Pat Leuck, Polly Peterson and Ron Evans worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk as hosts of the program to share stories of the expert care at Children's Hospital of Iowa. The proceeds will support 85,000 patients who come to the hospital yearly from the station's listening area.
"The efforts of many will benefit thousands of Quad City area children who are served by Children's Hospital," Leuck said. "It's an honor to help these kids and parents find their voices."
"We met a young girl from Houston, Texas, who traveled to our hospital to get the surgery only found three places in the world. It's an impressive place," added Evans.
Elyse Meade of Davenport, mother of Jon Meade, helped rally the troops of radiothon participants. Jon, a lifelong patient at Children's Hospital of Iowa, lost his battle with cystic fibrosis last July. Jon's memory lived on throughout the two-day event. He was a regular at Children's Miracle Network fundraising events, and many patients came to share their stories of triumph and challenge just like Jon.
Proceeds from the event will benefit various programs that support specialized equipment purchases
