Free Registration For Farmers To Attend Ag Safety And Health Forum

A limited number of free registrations are available for farmers interested in attending the Midwest Rural and Agricultural Safety and Health Forum Nov. 16 at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa.

Twenty $50 stipends and free registration are available for farmers to attend on a first-come, first-served basis. Conference registration materials are available online through the University of Iowa Center for Conferences and Institutes at Farmers should call 319-335-4141 to request the stipend.

The theme of the conference is "Moving Ideas to Action." Forrest W. Calico, senior advisor on quality for the National Rural Health Association, will give the keynote address, "Collaboration: The Future of Rural Health and Safety." Susan L. Roberts, director of the Food and Society Policy Fellows Program at the Thomas Jefferson Agricultural Institute, will present "How the Farm Bill Affects Your Health." The agenda also will feature a panel session titled, "Listening to the Farmer's Viewpoint," with agricultural producers from the Midwest.

A featured focus of the conference will be workshops to assist farm families in farm risk management and avian flu, and tips for farm families in choosing a health insurance policy.

The event is co-sponsored by Iowa's Center for Agricultural Safety and Health, the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health and the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety.
