Department Of Residence Services Changes Name To University Housing
The University of Iowa's Department of Residence Services is changing its name to University Housing, a name that more clearly reflects the department's mission.
"The name 'University Housing' has an instant connection for students, prospective students, parents and other members of the public," said Von Stange, whose title will remain Director, (University Housing). "Since most of our work involves housing, we thought it made sense to simplify the name of the department. Now, people know what we do by looking at the name."
The name change will become effective June 1.
University Housing manages the operations of all 10 of the university's residence halls and their residential dining facilities. Approximately 5,600 students live in the residence halls each year. University Housing also manages the Hawkeye Court and Hawkeye Drive apartment neighborhoods on Mormon Trek Boulevard.
Stange said that all but one of the schools in the Big 10 use the term 'housing' in the names of their housing departments.
