NICU 'Graduates' To Attend Reunion

A reunion of "graduates" and their families who received care during the past two years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4.

Organizers expect more than 600 children, parents and pediatric health care professionals to attend the event on the seventh level of the Roy Carver Pavilion.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our staff to catch up with families and see how far the children have all come," said Jeffrey Segar, M.D., UI professor of pediatrics and director of neonatology at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "Even though we care for the sickest children, they often make amazing progress."

The Parent Connection and NICU staff is coordinating the reunion, with the support of gifts through Children's Miracle Network. For more information, please call 319-353-7997.

The NICU at Children's Hospital of Iowa is the most advanced facility in the state. Specialists there care for premature infants and severely ill newborns. More than 20,000 babies have received care in the NICU at Children's Hospital of Iowa since the unit opened 32 years ago in 1974.

Children's Hospital of Iowa is the state's most comprehensive children's hospital. More than 140,000 clinic visits occur annually at Children's Hospital of Iowa and its statewide network of outreach clinics. About 5,000 children are admitted to the 177-bed Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.
