UI College Of Public Health Honors Students, Faculty And Staff
The University of Iowa College of Public Health honored the achievements of students, faculty and staff at its annual Graduation and Honors Dinner and Milford E. Barnes Awards Ceremony held May 12.
Seven students received Milford E. Barnes Awards for outstanding work in their areas of study. The recipients were: Jennifer Bass, Master In Public Health Graduate Program; Robin Beining, Department of Epidemiology; Seeong Woo Choi and Robin Epp, Department of Occupational and Environmental Health; Leah Frerichs, Department of Community and Behavioral Health; Bren Lowe, Department of Health Management and Policy; and Wei Zhang, Department of Biostatistics.
The awards are named for Milford Barnes, M.D., who served as professor and head of the Department of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine from 1930 to 1952. Zeinab Mohamad, recent graduate in the Department of Epidemiology, received the Dean's Achievement Award.
Joseph Cavanaugh, Ph.D., associate professor of biostatistics, received the College of Public Health Faculty Teaching Award. John Lowe, Dr.P.H., professor and head of community and behavioral health, received the Faculty Service Award, and Larry Robertson, Ph.D., professor of occupational and environmental health, received the Faculty Research Award.
The Staff Research Award was given to John Lundell, deputy director of the UI Injury Prevention Research Center. The Staff Service Award was presented to Terry Kirk, secretary, Department of Biostatistics.
Students and faculty inductees into the UI chapter of the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health also were recognized. Newly elected student members included Jennifer Bass, Kirsten Beyer, Ritu Bhatnagar, Julie Coughlin, Robin Epp, Rachel Horner, Yu-Hui Huang, Sara Imhof, Laura Jones, Jeffrey Lynch, Alysha Meyers, George Wehby and Bongin Yoo.
Newly elected faculty members to the society were John Lowe and Craig Zwerling, M.D., Ph.D., professor of occupational and environmental health. Newly elected alumni members were Charles Lynch, M.D., Ph.D., professor of epidemiology, and James Torner, Ph.D., professor of epidemiology.
