Awards Presented At MBA Spring Banquet

Several Tippie School of Management students, faculty and staff were honored April 8 at the MBA Spring Banquet Honors Banquet for their contributions to the Tippie MBA program at the University of Iowa.

Nicolle Elsasser received the MBA IMPACT Award, presented to the graduating student who best demonstrates the principles of the Tippie MBA program --involvement, motivation, professionalism, achievement, challenge and teamwork -- both within the program and across campus.

Sri Sathiamoorthy received the Wall Street Journal Award, given to a first-year student who has excelled in the classroom and has been active in MBA activities. In addition to the School of Management gift of a crystal clock, Sathiamoorthy received a paperweight from the Wall Street Journal with a commemorative award medallion made of sculpted brass, a one-year subscription to the Journal and a published listing of the winner's name in a full-page announcement in the Journal.

The Program Improvement Awards, given to students who inspired and implemented meaningful change in the program, were presented to first-year student Todd Nelson and second-year student Gabriel Hansen.

Leighton Smith was selected by his peers as the first-year MBA Student of the Year, while Elsasser was selected as second-year MBA Student of the Year.

Jeff Ohlmann received the MBA Core Faculty of the Year award. MBA Elective Faculty of the Year awards were given to: Ashish Tiwari, assistant professor of finance; Tom Gruca, associate professor of marketing; and Amy Kristof-Brown, associate professor of management and organizations. The Tippie School of Management Staff Member of the Year Award was presented to Stephanie Finney, MBA Student Services assistant.
