Classes Will Help Cancer Information Seekers

The Cancer Information Service of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa and the Patients' Library at UI Hospitals and Clinics are offering educational opportunities for people who want to learn more about searching for information about cancer.

The course is titled, "Searching for Cancer Information." The classes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, June 5. Both sessions will take place in the Radiation Oncology Media Center, located on the lower level of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion's West Addition at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

The classes will focus on searching for cancer information on the Internet; how to find clinical trials; and National Library of Medicine programs that provide cancer information. There will be time for individual participants to receive assistance in searching for specific cancer information.

The National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health is funding this project. Volunteer Services at UI Hospitals and Clinics also contributed funding to the Center of Excellence in Imaged-Guided Radiation Therapy Media Center.

The number of participants that can be accommodated is limited to a maximum of eight people, so pre-registration is requested. To register for this free class or for more information, call 319-356-4262.

Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers are recognized as the leaders in developing new approaches to cancer prevention and cancer care, conducting leading edge research and educating the public about cancer.
