ADVISORY: UI Hancher Auditorium Press Conference Is March 28 In Des Moines
A press conference will be held at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, in the atrium of the Iowa State Historical Society Building, which houses the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, at 600 E. Locust St. in Des Moines. The public is also invited to attend.
The purpose of the event is to announce and detail a performing-arts project of statewide impact, sponsored by the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium in collaboration with other Iowa arts and funding organizations. The project was conceived to celebrate Hancher's 35th anniversary as the state's most prominent showcase of the performing arts.
This project of unprecedented scope and ambition will reach, literally, from river to river, including Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Muscatine.
In addition to Hancher directors Judith Hurtig and Charles Swanson, the press conference will be attended by state legislators and other officials representing those communities, a representative from a major Iowa funding source for the project and a representative of the internationally renowned performing-arts company that is partnering with Hancher. Many of these people will be available for individual interviews following the formal presentation.
In addition to formally announcing the project, the press conference will launch the project's public fundraising phase.
