UI Office Of Graduate Ethnic Inclusion Names New Director
Minnetta Gardinier, associate dean for recruitment and professional development in the Graduate College at The University of Iowa, has been named director of the Office of Graduate Ethnic Inclusion (OGEI), effective July 1, 2006.
The OGEI is an umbrella organization whose staff members coordinate programs that promote recruitment and professional development of underrepresented minorities in graduate education.
"I look forward to building networks across UI graduate programs that enhance and improve opportunities for underrepresented minority graduate students. Our goal is to promote an ongoing dialogue where successful programs can share their experiences with each other and those trying to gain momentum in this area," said Gardinier. "Working collaboratively under the OGEI umbrella, we can strive for greater impact."
The OGEI was established under the direction of Philip Kutzko, professor of mathematics in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Kutzko will continue his role as director of the Iowa Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), focusing his efforts on increasing the number of doctorate degrees awarded to underrepresented minority students. AGEP is a partnership among the UI, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa.
