Rennie Harris Puremovement Energized School Groups, Jan. 20 In Hancher
The University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium was filled with whoops, cheers and rhythmic clapping when Rennie Harris Puremovement presented a matinee lecture/demonstration on the history and styles of hip-hop dancing on Jan. 20. By the end of the hour, more than two-dozen students were on stage to take their own star turns.
The event, which was attended by more than 1,400 eastern Iowa students, was part of the Stage Door series, presented for school groups by Hancher's education program.
Rennie Harris Puremovement transplants the gravity-defying twists, turns and seemingly effortless acrobatics of urban street dance to the concert stage. Citypaper in his hometown of Philadelphia concluded, "If Rennie Harris Puremovement were any hotter, it would incinerate before your eyes."
