Women's Center Launches 'Lunch With A Shero' Series
The Women's Resource & Action Center (WRAC) announces the inaugural event in its new "Lunch with a Shero" series of lunchtime conversations with notable women. This first event in the series, focusing on women in public office, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at WRAC, 130 N. Madison St. A light lunch will be provided; participants are also welcome to bring their own brown-bag lunch. The event is free and open to the public.
As a result of the most recent local City Council election, Iowa City has a female majority serving on its City Council for the first time in history. Councilors Regenia Bailey and Amy Correia will speak about their motivations for, and experiences in, running for and holding public office.
Founded in 1971, the Women's Resource and Action Center is one of the oldest university-based women's centers in the United States. Among its services -- available both to UI students, faculty and staff and to the general public -- are information and referral, advocacy, support and discussion groups, individual counseling, and a wide variety of educational programs including seminars, workshops, festivals and discussions.
More information about the Center, its services, and its upcoming activities is available on the web at http://www.uiowa.edu/~wrac.
