Recreational Services Offers Parent/Child Yoga Classes

University of Iowa Recreational Services is offering two classes Saturday, Jan. 14 that give parents a chance to experience a yoga class with their child.

Meredith Caskey will teach "Mom & Baby Yoga" and "Parent Tot Yoga."  "Mom & Baby Yoga" is for parents and their baby, age birth to six months. It will be from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. "Parent Tot Yoga" is for parents and their child, age six months to one year. It will be from 10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

Yoga is a great way for a person to bond with their child, Caskey said. "Using music, in a relaxed atmosphere, we will try different poses alongside our tots or holding our babies," she explained. "It's a great way to bond with our little ones while feeling the benefits of yoga ourselves."

No previous yoga experience is required. Feel free to bring a blanket, mat or towel as well as a pillow. Water or drinks for both adults and children are recommended.

Both classes will be held in Room 101 of the UI Field House. There is a $5 walk-in fee. No registration is necessary.

A wellness class for new or expectant mothers is also being offered by Recreational Services. "Hatha Yoga During Pregnancy & Post Natal" will be offered Jan. 25 to Feb. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the UI Field House. The instructor is once again Meredith Caskey and the class fee is $32 for all four weeks. Registration for this class is in E216 of the Field House.
